Open shelves are a nightmare in a kitchen..grease from cooking + dust = major yuk
If you don’t believe me, climb up on your countertop and run your fingers across the top of your cabinets. SO gross!

  2. JustSeekerLanding [jessica landi] on November 13, 2022 at 5:12 pm

Waterfall choice prevents seating on the waterfall sides!

  3. MilaN on November 13, 2022 at 5:14 pm

It was a lot of fun to re-watch your predictions a year and a half later. You were spot on for every trend except for the open shelves. These are definitely and fortunately on their way out because most people are sick of dusting them. Maybe you could do a re-visit video where you re-visit yours and other designers previous trend predictions to see how accurate they were.

the trend has been gray. with the young. they following that idea. world wide. gray gray in light tones instead of white.

  6. Nik Nak on November 13, 2022 at 5:16 pm

Loved the video!! I’ve been searching YouTube to find comfort in choosing maple cabinets by Waypoint. What I’m finding is white cabinets are the way to go. I just… idk
My kitchen is small (11×15), I want it to be warm, inventing, timeless and updated. This is a long shot that you’ll answer but, are light maple cabinets dated?

  7. Let the redeemed say so! on November 13, 2022 at 5:19 pm

We are watching to view the ideas. Please talk while showing the pictures we don’t need to see you talk in that boring room. You flash the pictures so fast!

  9. Jackie O on November 13, 2022 at 5:20 pm

One of my friends has cabinets that go to the ceiling and have frosted glass. Beautiful! I need a double sink to wash dishes!

  10. Rosehaven Farm on November 13, 2022 at 5:22 pm

    oooh, I’m finally "trendy"!
I’ve had a bank of navy cabinets for six years…🤣

But I do love my white cabinets on the opposite wall.

  11. Cori Lia on November 13, 2022 at 5:25 pm

Another thing is everyone wants stainless steel appliances. Well i have a white stove, fridge and dishwasher. I also have a thing that bugs me is fridges themselves are so big and bulky. If space permits they should be flushed into the wall. Just my 2 cents

4:15 I’m leaning toward a pull-down shelf system for my highest cabinets. Makes the investment in floor-to-ceiling a bit less extravagant, better use of the space.
At my age I don’t need to be using step-stools.

  14. sunanda khanna on November 13, 2022 at 5:28 pm

flooring. cabinetry. backsplash. countertops. what should we pick first? please advise.

  15. farvista on November 13, 2022 at 5:29 pm

Fads vs. trends with a barn door on a rail behind you. That made me snicker. Open shelves, no thanks. Some say continuing trend, others say waning. I don’t need more things to dust.
I have ALWAYS hated having a big, open area over the top of my cabinets where I could have storage. Correcting it is an expense, however.
I’ve missed the walk-in pantry in my old house SO much, but some layouts just don’t provide the space for it. My current one certainly doesn’t.

  16. D'Bee on November 13, 2022 at 5:31 pm

White cabinets are SO BORING!!! I’ve had them for the last 25 years and can’t wait to get rid of them. We are going with a gray-green. THAT is on trend. I don’t like waterfall edges, either. They look too much like plastic. I’d much rather see the a woodwork detail on the edges or backside of an island/peninsula. Also disagree with open shelving. It so impractical! Maybe a few here and there would be ok; but uppers can store more, keep the dust and grease out, and hide the uglies.

  17. husher5142 on November 13, 2022 at 5:32 pm

Things I’ll never have in my kitchen: white cabinets, open shelves, and a farm house sink haha. White yellows (unless you can blue them – might have to look into that, open shelves are a disaster in the kitchen and you need two sinks to cook. The other trend i despise is microwaves in drawers .. i dont know what monster thought that was a great idea lol. Ovens can go on the bottom, microwaves should be chest/eye level.

  18. Heather Estes on November 13, 2022 at 5:35 pm

    I despise open shelving

  19. Tracy Tuten on November 13, 2022 at 5:35 pm

So many of these things I can’t stand white cabinets, multi colored cabinets, waterfall counters and the large sink with no divider. About to build a house next month and you won’t see these things in my home. Eighteen years ago when I purchased my last house I told the realtor if it has white cabinets don’t even show it to me. 😁

    Do you have pink eye???

  21. Captain Kirk on November 13, 2022 at 5:38 pm

everytime I see a white kitchen they look cheap weather or not they spent money on them it looks very low budget and rental looking.

  22. Barbie Sergio on November 13, 2022 at 5:39 pm

This video is about now and the last 5 years, not the future by a long shot.

  23. N Harber on November 13, 2022 at 5:41 pm

Who doesn’t love a white kitchen? Me! My grandmother had one, and when I see one all my mind goes to is her obsessive cleaning and calling me from whatever random pocket of the property and interrupting any task I was involved in to make me wipe down counter for the 5th time because there were 3 grains of salt on it that I missed, so I "didn’t finish cleaning up." To her, the all white meant clean. To me, it just means endless cleaning and repetitive time wasting tasks.

I want a sage green kitchen with plants in it and charcoal granite counters. That’s the kitchen I have wanted since I was like 20 (green is my favorite color) and in the last decade and change I have never wavered from it. Most likely dark earth tone floors, either wood or tile and a huge island, with tons and tons of counter space on the island and all around, tons of storage too, both cabinets and pantry space. I want a big south facing bay window with a shelf in it to grow culinary herbs in over the sink. When I die, whoever buys it can change it if they want but that’s what I want. We will likely never move once a are finally able to buy a house so I don’t really care about designing to please a buyer. I will design and remodel to fit me and our family.

  25. M R on November 13, 2022 at 5:41 pm

Me. I don’t like white kitchens. I think they are just too bright and look cheaper than a wood look cabinet.

  26. ECG on November 13, 2022 at 5:42 pm

Love all of these ideas!!Quartz is also a trending option. White Quartz looks beautiful in a white kitchen. Take a look at our quartz options!

Excellent advice. Don’t let anyone, or a trend dictate what your space looks like.

  28. affy syeda on November 13, 2022 at 5:43 pm

Are graphite cabinets trendy or classic? Do they look very cold and metallic?

  29. marye on November 13, 2022 at 5:44 pm

This video has a very useful general guide but still I need a tip. I am choosing a color for my wood traditional cabinets. The counter’ marble predominately brown with rust and mustard veins tones. Please, could you suggest me a color? Thank you.😊

  30. Cori Lia on November 13, 2022 at 5:47 pm

I like some open shelving . I have a shelf that runs the whole wall above my stove and the other wall above my fridge and that is where my teapot collection sits. I have the old Youngstown metal cabinets in my kitchen from way back when and unlike wood cabinets , they will never wear out. I have spraypainted them a light yellow with nickel finish pull knobs. Old doesnt have to look really old… well my kitchen would not be for everybody but i like it. I even have old weird looking blue counter tops. And that light blue kitchen you showed is a throw back to the old kitchens that had that blue color from the 50s i love it

  31. Darlene Ruiz on November 13, 2022 at 5:47 pm

I dont believe any look is "timeless." If these are trendy styles now they will inevitably look dated in 10+ years. I guess I’m a rebel because I’m having my kitchen redone with maple cabinets! I personally hate the all white trend.

  32. haripi2 on November 13, 2022 at 5:47 pm

HI @mark tobin , could you share the color of the blue cabinet that you demonstrated as a example?

  33. Anastasia Ragan on November 13, 2022 at 5:47 pm

The function of your waterfall island is to protect the cabinets from being destroyed by bumping your feet on it ))

  34. Zenben on November 13, 2022 at 5:48 pm

I understand why uk and America don’t lead in the latest designs after watching this.

  35. Delainey Johnson on November 13, 2022 at 5:48 pm

Did reclaimed wood a few years ago for flooring and started feeling sick. Turns out it was full of black mold. So…be careful! 🙂 Had to have the entire floor replaced and then radiation cleaning– or whatever expensive thing they did!

  36. Kay-C on November 13, 2022 at 5:49 pm

Dang I see a lot of people in the comments coming for you about the open shelving as if it’s YOU who decides what will & won’t be popular & not just telling people BASED ON YOUR EXPERTISE & EXPERIENCE where you think the trends are headed! lol
With that being said, I see open shelving is something people in these comments do not like huh??? But this isn’t about what you personally like or dislike it’s about what the majority likes or doesn’t.
Lol! For millennials, especially, (source: I am a millennial), the “minimalist” lifestyle has caught on & since its a lifestyle change that is meant to declutter the open shelving is perfect for that!
I don’t see this trend going anywhere any time soon because millennials seem to value different things than boomers & Gen x does. From what I see millennials like to spend money on things outside of the home like traveling & stuff & spend on experiences rather than these big fancy houses.

My ADHD can’t handle open shelves 🤣 i need clean simple with nothing visible

  41. Ale Diaz on November 13, 2022 at 5:54 pm

    Open shelf… dust over …

  42. Ayda Carrion on November 13, 2022 at 5:54 pm

Muy bien explicado, (revise el video con subtítulos) totalmente de acuerdo con lavadero amplio, gabinetes hasta el techo, walk in pantry👍🏻 el color blanco como base permite múltiples combinaciones, gris, acero, haya, celeste. Gracias 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Doing new build and going black cabinets.
    =)
    Love the contrast.
    Classic black & white.

  44. Despina Kyraleos on November 13, 2022 at 5:57 pm

I am partial to a sage green kitchen. White is nice but just too common. I am all about green!

  45. Marisa Lunde on November 13, 2022 at 5:58 pm

I love natural maple cabinets. Anything but the honey-stained oak!

  46. ChicagoDreamer5 on November 13, 2022 at 6:00 pm

Open shelving — not in my kitchen. I love cabinets on the top, and not having to always bend over to get something inside.

  47. S W on November 13, 2022 at 6:00 pm

Open shelves is already out of style.

  48. Mark Builds TX on November 13, 2022 at 6:01 pm

These are in no particular order… NUMBER 10. lol

  49. ZaidayYogi on November 13, 2022 at 6:02 pm

Hi! I just had my kitchen remodeled. I chose white glossy acrylic for the cabinets (just didn’t know it would not have a mirror like effect I was hoping😣)
Anybody knows if It’s hard to take the laminate off and put another one?

  50. Koitus36 on November 13, 2022 at 6:05 pm

I do like finishing cabinets to the ceiling, but I would recommend people not just get 42” uppers because the doors can warp a little.
