I’m optimistic that, because you didn’t mention it, that the bottle of beer hair wash method has finally faded away.

  2. Iris on December 12, 2022 at 2:29 am

What do you think about steam straighteners, like the L’Oreal steampod. They state that it’s way less damaging than normal straighteners

  3. Chrissie Dunlap on December 12, 2022 at 2:30 am

I actually had a dermatologist 50 years ago tell me to wash my hair with ivory dish soap. That it was just as good as shampoo!

  4. grespinosa on December 12, 2022 at 2:32 am

There was a time in my life when I was destitute and only had dish soap for hair & body washing – but that was many years ago and would never voluntarily consider it!! 👀🤦‍♀

If I can trust any beauty blogger is definitely Abbey, I trust her with advice and technique application from products she recommends. By far she’s the best. 💖 thank you for your advice, Abbey!

I’m crazy but I dry my hair with my floor fan 80 percent before I use my Dyson air styler 😂

  7. freemindsloveforever on December 12, 2022 at 2:34 am

Abbey, it looks like im the first to mention this (major flex🤣), please review Alterna’s bond strengthening serum which you can add to your deep conditioner. So novel.

  8. Kelc Walker on December 12, 2022 at 2:39 am

Abbey ❤ please do a review on some naturium products! Skincare products and Specifically the sunscreen they just came out with , they also have body lotion and washes ❤ I love Susan yara , she’s a YouTuber also one of the founders of naturium. Very curious about your thoughts

Oh goodness, citrus fruit in the hair! Guilty. And I have jet black hair. 25-years ago middle school me was not happy with the result. Looking forward to your review on Sun-In!! 😝 Great video, Abbey!! Thank you always!

  10. Lisa Bee on December 12, 2022 at 2:41 am

Abbey, part 3 should be worst advice you’ve ever received from a hairdresser. I had one tell me that I don’t need conditioner if I use a coconut oil deep condition once a week

    Yeah no!!

  11. Jacob Roege on December 12, 2022 at 2:42 am

I just wanted to say to your first point, I have chronic seb derm and it flares and calms somewhat randomly. But my hair always looks healthy🤷‍♂️ I don’t do any styling really except a little light hold product, so that probably helps, but the scalp and hair aren’t necessarily connected! Good to take care of both, but just because one is damaged, doesn’t mean the other will 🤷‍♂️

  12. QuickSilverHair on December 12, 2022 at 2:43 am

Here is ONE reason to use Downy for conditioner…you were sprayed by a skunk! 😂😂

  13. LaMeme Chose on December 12, 2022 at 2:43 am

So many of these are “in a pinch, you can use X as Y…” or things that are meant for a very specific situation (like when I line cook didn’t realize I was crouched down cleaning and pushed all the old French fries onto my head & I had to use diluted Dawn to get that out), or have a grain of truth but have been very distorted. I think the “scalp training” thing comes from people washing less, which means not over-stripping, which means less of your body trying to compensate (by producing more oil), which means a less grease. I didn’t understand that concept until my dermatologist told me the same thing about my under-moisturized oily face. I still get super greasy in the heat, but I’m much less oily under normal circumstances since I started adding the moisturizer instead of forcing my face to do it for me.

  14. Lexi Jones on December 12, 2022 at 2:44 am

People just need to wash their damn hair. PERIOD. I wash every other day. Sometimes every two days. Don’t be gross. Wash your hair. You aren’t an idiot. Far from it.

  15. Maddy Tedesco on December 12, 2022 at 2:44 am

I am usually very anti DIY hair care / skin care but diluted ACV from the pantry after a good shampoo as a treatment is FAB. It’s cheap, always on hand, and effective ☺️

  16. Joann Mannarino on December 12, 2022 at 2:48 am

I have the baby fine hair and have always used different serums to “grow it out”. Recently I watched a video on this and it made absolute sense. My hair is still growing at a normal rate which is apparent as I need to get root touch ups every 1-2 months. Instead we need to focus on the ends of our hair which are the oldest part and often wind up splitting which is the reason our hair stops growing instean of focusing on the scalp and these hair growth serums we need to take care of the middle section and especially the ends using leave in condition after every shampoo and using pil on the ends. I’ve just begun doing this so too early to tell but my hairdresser recently recommended a haircare line called truss and wow!! I have really noticed a difference in the overall health of Mymensingh hair. Just the shampoo and conditioner but they also sell a heat protectant as well as a treatment called night spa which I just used for the first time (sparingly from the midsection focusing on the ends. Wow is all I can say. This products have been a total game changer for me. If you get a chance, I love for you to check them out and do a review. I think you will be extremely impressed.

  20. Carey C on December 12, 2022 at 2:55 am

I feel like some of these are things my mom or grandma told me about loooong ago before there was really good hair care out there. 😂

  21. Nat Mya on December 12, 2022 at 2:57 am

Chemists formulate shampoo and conditioner to be used on our hair specifically for that purpose YET the majority of shampoo and conditioners on the market are the wrong PH for our hair and scalp and are full of toxic ingredients like fragrance so whilst I agree with the points on what should not be used it’s not true to say a product developed for hair is all that great either. Look how many lawsuits there have been for hair products making people’s hair fall out. These things are developed for sales and profit over and above hair health often times.

  22. Jessa Kent on December 12, 2022 at 2:57 am

People always point to those Dawn commercials where they use Dawn to clean oil from baby ducks so it must be safe! It’s used to strip MOTOR OIL. Motor. Oil. It is not a safe, everyday dog shampoo and certainly not a people shampoo.

  23. Kim Johnston on December 12, 2022 at 2:57 am

Your hair is sooo cute like that

  24. John Redding Baker on December 12, 2022 at 2:58 am

Loool at the conditioner substitute suggestion. Oh but if someone has suggested it then someone has def tried it😂😂

  25. Alexandra Grace on December 12, 2022 at 2:58 am

My dermatologist says that cosmetic scalp care products are completely pointless, and some can even cause a dreadful medical condition. For example, she warned me against scalp scrubs because they can cause micro-tears on the scalp and create the perfect environment for fungal and bacterial infections, especially if you’re using a scalp oil too. If you have any dramas with your scalp, as I personally have, a dermatologist can give you pharmacological, lifestyle, and dietary advice to address your particular condition.

  26. Crystal Henderson on December 12, 2022 at 2:58 am

Regarding the hair training one, i agree, from personal experience, it didn’t make a difference.
Re the fabric softener, I remember as a kid hearing that you can put fabric softener in ur dolls hair to help. I wonder if that’s where people got it from lol 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

  27. Maia Elise on December 12, 2022 at 3:00 am

How did you get that hairstyle with long hair? :0

  28. Jennifer Lynn on December 12, 2022 at 3:00 am

I think the person who claimed fabric softener could be used in place of conditioner misunderstood her hairdresser. I HAVE heard that if you are suffering with very static-y hair (as when you’ve under-conditioned your hair), that running a dry fabric softener sheet lightly over top of your hair can resolve that “finger in the light-socket” look. However, it’s NOT a replacement for proper conditioning, and in no circumstance should liquid softener be applied to hair! 🙄

Follow your advice to a t, and have seen such improvements in my hair!!! Where is your sweater from?? 🥰

  34. kat m on December 12, 2022 at 3:06 am

I love diluted ACV as a way to cleanse buildup! I use it in combination with shampoo, but I couldn’t ever just on its own

  35. Anita Conder on December 12, 2022 at 3:06 am

I got the advice to wash with Dawn once a week to chaleate the product out. That came from a San Francisco hair dresser on YouTube- she knows what she’s doing! Her channel is Ellebangs. Check her out! I’ve been doing it for years. And her reasoning was marketing for more high priced product was ridiculous. And just because it was created for dishes doesn’t mean it is a bad product ONCE A WEEK. It’s gentle enough for ducklings in oil spills. I’ll keep doing it. And saving coin for other things- my hair is in great shape- and I visit a professional hairstylist for regular hairstyling. I spend money on quality hair masks and conditioners. I no longer color since I let my hair go gloriously grey! 👩🏻‍🦳

  36. Megan Anderson on December 12, 2022 at 3:07 am

For anybody saying ‘but they use dawn on the ducks and they’re fine”
    1. You aren’t a duck…they have feathers and you have hair.
    2. They don’t really know that it’s that safe because most animals post oil spill die even after being “cleaned”

  37. Zukinni Calcetinni on December 12, 2022 at 3:08 am

    Do you recommend scalp oils?

  38. MariahM on December 12, 2022 at 3:08 am

What are your thoughts about rosemary oil or people making rosemary water to spray onto hair? 👀

  39. Renee Gramling on December 12, 2022 at 3:09 am

Abby do you still use the pureology strength cure line? I just bought it to try because my hair is really dry and breaking. I also just ordered a hard water filter for my shower. I had one but it wasn’t doing a very good job it just filtered chlorine out. I used to get silver highlights and it just destroyed my hair so I stopped about a year ago.

  40. April Charter on December 12, 2022 at 3:09 am

Apple cider vinegar rinse has been really helpful for my hair. I think my hair is so rough due to hardwater and it makes a difference in softness.

  41. shores of freedom on December 12, 2022 at 3:09 am

omg… i’m cringing haaaard at the fabric softener instead of conditioner xddd people be stupid, sorry… and hairdressers recommended it ?? no wonder why i hate hairdressers and never go to one xDDD

  42. Salma B on December 12, 2022 at 3:10 am

Hey Abbey, can you tell us anything about our hair’s « F layer » ? It’s the target area of the Bleu R+CO product line but I’d like to know if there is any science backing their claims. Thank you for all the work you put into your videos, you’ve literally SAVED my fine brittle hair 🥹

  43. Pamela B on December 12, 2022 at 3:13 am

I’ve heard of people using fabric softener sheets for static on their hair and I can kiiiinda see that but not actual liquid softener. WTactualH?

  44. NightGirlMelody on December 12, 2022 at 3:15 am

i’ve used a diy apple cider vinegar rinse to help get rid of buildup and sure it worked but it also dried my hair out 🙃 i had to use a regular shampoo alongside it! i could never use it just on its own as an alternative to shampoo! plus the ouai detox shampoo does both and it’s better at the job anyway lmao

  45. Danielle Hodgson on December 12, 2022 at 3:15 am

The one about the dish soap reminds me of my grandmother telling me she had to do this to her hair because of how she had three kids to take care of and not a lot of money 🙁🙁 But at least she doesn’t have to do it anymore and I don’t think she did it all the time but I wouldn’t know. It was so sad to hear about!! My poor grandmothers hair!!!!!!

  46. Shenandoah on December 12, 2022 at 3:15 am

Do you need to use clarifying shampoo to get your hair totally clean?

  47. Maryam Y on December 12, 2022 at 3:19 am

There’s something I’ve heard some people say id that it’s better and healthier to wash your hair upside down , others say that its unhealthy and can cause breakage due to hair follicules being oppened . I would like to know your opinion on this or anyone who has answer cuz i want to try this method to get rid of my hair part but idk if its damaging or not 😭 plz help

  48. Darby Blodgett on December 12, 2022 at 3:19 am

For the Dawn dish soap: my grandma (born in 1936 I think) said she used to use dawn/ regular dish soap on her hair before shampoo was invented and marketed as widely as it is today!

  49. Casey Wilson on December 12, 2022 at 3:20 am

“Please for the love of God do not!” 😆😆 I hadn’t heard of the dish soap trend—who thinks of these?! 😑

  50. Ohlala on December 12, 2022 at 3:22 am

I use diluted apple cider vinegar as a conditioner, not shampoo though. Use it as a conditioner really help soften the hair.
