What if you have BOTH an overly oily scalp and a lot of breakage of the hair?! I’ve been UBER STRESSED trying to figure out how to care for my hair when it seems at complete odds with itself.

The overwashing underwashing is so hard because i have oil and dandruff but when i was it to much my scalp produces a lot of excess oil and then it gets oily very very fast. So maybe i should increase washing my hair a little? I don’t know

I look for the mentioned ingredients in some hair products, but the fragrance I try to avoid on my face, I use on hair products and body lotion…if you don’t have allergies or any problems, I don’t see why not…

  9. Stephanie Lu on December 8, 2022 at 2:14 am

Sulfates btw, are too harsh for hair follicles. So using sulfate free shampoo is beneficial to helping keeping your follicles healthy.
Also, read the ingredients to make sure they don’t contain things you are allergic to. Example some hair products have wheat and milk in them. If you are allergic to them, even though you’re putting them on your head and not eating it, it can still cause irritation and allergic reactions to a lesser degree. Such as inflammation in the scalp, itching, rash etc.

Thank you Doctors, you provide very helpful information I have told my oldest daughter about you guys she said she was somewhat familiar I share with her often 😉 and my youngest daughter too, who has flawless skin maybe she sometimes gets the monthly period pimple which is gone in like two days, she doesn’t always have one 🤔. They both like me tan easy but now especially because of medication and the skin cancer issue I stay out of the sun and if I’m going to be out sunscreen SPF 50 at least they tell me I need color, I don’t think so 😉. Besides the grandchildren are watching sunscreen and they ask for it too 🤗☮️.

I don’t think it’s available in The Netherlands. Any other recommendations? Just something with these ingredients? I have fine and thin hair, it was thinning from medications (infliximab, purinethol for my ulcerative colitis) so now it’s getting better after also watching my vitamins, diet, haircare (not too many chemicals, neutral shampoos and hair masks). I try to wash it every other day (thank god because of covid I work from home a few days a week haha), unless I have something to go to, I really need to wash it or it looks flat and oily. Dry shampoo is helpfull (probably not the best for your scalp).

Do you guys know about dry shampoo? Does it damage the scalp? Thanks!

  15. Evelyn Cruz on December 8, 2022 at 2:21 am

I have curly hair and NEED to wash it everyday!!! I have tried to go a day to a few days in between washes and it’s an oily/painful/flaky mess and I don’t use styling products often. I much rather have frizzy, poofy hair then having pain in my scalp mixed with oil. I’ve come to the conclusion that i have an “oily” scalp but dry hair. It’s a pain in the butt when I straighten my hair cuz I know I’ll have to wash my hair within 24 hours.

  16. Amanda G on December 8, 2022 at 2:22 am

I’m allergic to a laundry list of things so I have to wash my hair every day that I spend a good bit of time outside and at least every other day. My hair’s pretty long so there’s just no getting around it.

Can you link the heat protectants you mentioned?

  20. Taurine on December 8, 2022 at 2:26 am

Isn’t the sebum produced from your scalp really important and beneficial to your hair health? Also, when our hair gets stripped everyday won’t that trigger an increased production of sebum creating an endless cycle of constant hair washing? Obviously if you use product daily it’s definitely unavoidable.

What about sulfates or sulfate free? Which would possibly be better?

  24. Stephanie Neal on December 8, 2022 at 2:30 am

Hey if you need height try having your hairstylist putting in some texture I am a cosmetologist … and if you wash a lot your sebum that is made In the scalp send your glands to over work because it’s being washed and if you use anti dandruff Shampoo when you do not have it it will cause drynesss and cause problems oh yeah the heavier the product u put I. Your hair the more limp ur hair will become

  25. melissa zabower on December 8, 2022 at 2:30 am

Many years ago I read that our hair absorbs/holds onto the allergens etc. all day and for this reason I’ve always washed my hair before bed. True? False?

I have fine, thin, frizzy and curly hair. Oh and oily. I have to wash my hair everyday if I want it to look decent. If not I look like a homeless pyscho person. I used to have tons of hair. So much that I would run and hide under my bed from my mom because I hated having it brushed. Idk if it is genetics or just environment and choices, but after crohns disease, kids and years of bleaching, I only have a fraction of hair that I used to have. It could be worse, but it is definitely not what it was. I guess I’m just grateful that I have some hair left. Sometimes when i wake up and haven’t washed my hair in more than a day and look in the mirror, I get a glimpse of the Jeepers Creeps guy. It’s unfortunate. Life goes on.

So could someone help me in the comments so I just got my hair done recently it’s pretty much 80% blonde now because I got a balayage done and my hair is naturally brown my hair stylist is recommending to try dry shampoo but from previous experiences my hair would get super oily and my skin would break out I would wash my hair every night and but now that my hair is blonde now I’m scared to damage it but then again I’m afraid for my skin to break out should I show this video to my hair stylist next time to explain why it’s important for me to wash my hair at least every other day so that my skin doesn’t not break out or what? Because I feel so confused what to do now I wanna follow whats best for me and my hair/skin so that i don’t have any problems with either…. Any suggestions comment below I use purple shampoo/conditioner every other day to keep the blonde in my hair and OlaPlaex shampoo/conditioner to keep it healthy and help with split ends 😅

  29. Estefania Darsi on December 8, 2022 at 2:31 am

It all makes sense now. I have 2C and 3A curls and used to always wash my hair once a day. My hair at the time was very dry due to bleaching so every stylist (was going to different ones trying to find the one) would tell me to wash my hair less. So I did. I would wash it every other day. Then I started getting dandruff and my scalp became so itchy and sensitive. So they said wash it "wash it even less". I did. 3 years later I still suffer from dandruff and an itchy scalp but when I would wash it every day, my scalp was so healthy. I have even gone as far as to not using products on my hair to see if that was causing the problem. I’m going back to washing my hair once a day to see if that fixes my scalp issue. Thanks for the great info!

I didn’t see the heat protection products you said you’d recommend

  31. Hannyoongi on December 8, 2022 at 2:35 am

I wash my hair once everyday because I live in in a hot and humid place. Add to that my job as agriculturist which means I work under the sun. Imagine going to bed with all the dirt and sweat in your scalp. What I do mostly is I only wash my hair after work and don’t wash it anymore when I go to work. But in times where it’s really hot and I wake up really sweaty, I wash my hair but instead of my regular antidandruff shampoo which is drying, I use baby shampoo instead.

  32. BIDÓ on December 8, 2022 at 2:37 am

I also let my hair basically tell me when to wash it. It sometimes would be once a week, sometimes once every two weeks, depending on the weather and how much product I’ve had to use over the week or maybe my gym schedule.

What do you recommend for noticeable hair thinning. Scalp is more on the oily side but hair is brittle

  36. Claudia Fairbanks on December 8, 2022 at 2:39 am

I get dry skin around the edge of my scalp and in my eye brows. My primary care doctor diagnosed me with cradle cap. She originally told me to apply Hydrocortisone Cream to the area to see if that would help. After a year when I told her that it wasn’t really helping solve the issue she prescribed Ketoconazole 2% Shampoo. This hasn’t helped either. I have found that if I use a boar bristle brush and brush my scalp then the dryness goes away better than with anything else.

Silly to ask but what exactly is considered washing, the moment I use a cleanser or is pouring water over it still considered washing

What’s the best hair sprays that don’t damage hair?

  43. Victoria Louise on December 8, 2022 at 2:54 am

I feel like this is where I can certainly add my two cents here. So, I’ve had seborrheic dermatitis for over two years with it getting progressively worse in the last 6 months with it being throughout the bottom of my scalp and nothing at all around the top of my head. My hair is very long ( waist length) and even though I have fine hair, there’s a lot of it, so my hair is very heavy. It was actually my colourist who suggested this to me after talking about the state of my scalp, that due to the sheer amount of hair on my head, that the environment of my scalp at the bottom versus my scalp at the top was totally different and could have contributed to the over growth of yeast there possibly down to the build up of oil, harder to clean, quicker to become oily, lack of exposure to sunlight, etc. I found her suggestion interesting as I’ve always had long hair, but never this length which coincided roughly with when I noticed my scalp becoming inflamed. I still have extremely long hair, and for me it was also realising what was actually causing the dandruff and treating that, and the things that may exasperate it. Again, as someone with long hair, you see a lot of content on how to maintain hair of this length or how to encourage the health of it, and of course, many videos suggest the use of different oils and whilst they may help condition the hair shaft, it turns out that this was a recipe for disaster for my scalp and the yeast growth. I have used the T-Gel to treat, as well as getting layers (albeit long layers) cut to take some of the weight off my scalp, and I have noticed a difference in the sores, inflammation and the flaking skin. As they both mentioned, you wash your hair when you see fit versus what we read or what’s thrown at us, again, I was trying to go longer in between washes because of this and what I needed to be doing was washing more to help balance that oil production. I am not saying go that people don’t give good advice on how to maintain healthy hair but the best people to listen to are the professionals, in this instance… dermatologists rather than enthusiasts 😊

I hate tight hair styles. As a kid my mother literally tie my hair so tight. That once i remove my twin ponytail my scalp felt so relief. Glad i never pick up tight hair style

I stumbled on your channel, and for the last few weeks I’ve really been enjoying it (as has my brother, who is a cosmetic derm doc and hasn’t had to put up with my questions since I’ve been watching you). However, this video was basically a shill for the company sponsor. It was an extreme disappointment, and brings into question all the advice in previous videos. Seriously, how much of what you are saying is connected to who is paying you? I’m thinking twice about watching you again.
