I’ve used the 111Skin Cryo Pre-Activated Toning Cleanser (no I didn’t pay retail for it, it was in a beauty subscription box lol), and it was eh. My skin felt nice after using it, but alas it has fragrance, so in the bin it went.

    Thanks again Dr dray.
Regrettably the Dove "soap" bar formulations in the US, UK & EU are all different, and seem to contain harsh surfactants (palm kernalate, etc).
Aluminium requires lots of energy to produce it, though I cannot comment on its life-cycle impacts if it is efficiently recycled.

I really enjoy your channel and I love when people call a spade a spade but I respectfully part ways with your statement regarding aluminum, along with other heavy metals which are stored and accumulate in the body laying ground for potential auto immune diseases including Alzheimer’s to develop. Im very health conscious because I’ve had to deal with immune issues and have been listening to well respected doctors and scientists for many years regarding health. Im no fanatic nor am I vegan or a doctor but certainly have learned enough to stear clear of heavy metals etc. I stopped using aluminum base deodorant several years ago and although I do agree with you that some of the non-aluminum deodorants are irritating but many are not just have to shop around. With the increase of heavy metal toxicity in our society coming from many areas it just would be a good idea to remove it when we can especially putting it directly under a fresh shaved armpit where it can be directly absorbed. Fluoride is another one of those nasty elements we’ve been sold that it’s good for us and prevents cavities but that’s a whole different subject. If you’d like I will try to provide studies/nformation regarding this.
    Thank you.
    Peace and love

Will FDA ever put standards on the makeup ? Seems they can say anything.

So true, young, smart Doc.! Yes ppl never 👎🏼 had any societies troubles from bar soaps! I suspect the surfactants are what mitigates the mini amounts bacteria that may be on the bar.

It’s so annoying to me how brands pumped out AHA BHA scrubs, masks, exfoliants for a couple years, and now that half of us over exfoliated and damaged our skin, we’re being sold all these thinks that are marketed for the skin barrier. Ceramides, niacinimide, and the catch phrase “skin barrier” are everywhere right now because we need it to fix the damage that we caused from all the acids we were pushed

I am one of those rare people who have a terrible allergy to aluminum in deodorant! Suddenly in my late ’20’s (40 years ago now 😄 ) I broke out in horrible, red, extremely painful hives in my armpits. In a panic I went to the doctor fearing I had something life threatening. She looked at them and announced, "It’s not serious. You’re allergic to deodorant." Relieved I wasn’t dying was quickly replaced with horror – being out in the world with BO was not embraceable to a single 20 something woman! The doc told me to simply wash in an antibacterial soap and I’d be fine. I bought Physoderm but that didn’t work. I took a bottle of antibacterial wash from the hospital (where I was employed) and it worked great! I moved to SF in the late ’80s and discovered the Crystal deodorant stone in a "natural" cosmetic shop in the Marina district and it worked great too. Eventually I couldn’t use that stone either for whatever reason. There are so-called "natural" deodorants that will also trigger a rash. Now I wash with PanOxyl (on your recommendation Dr. Dray) and it works fabulously well. As I’m aging this sensitivity has increased as most allergies do. I use the cream 4% which is very effective and gentle. Thank you so much for all you do. I’m now a huge fan of so many of the products you highly recommend 🥰

Concerning two and one body and facial moisturizer, I’ve always been extremely hesitant to use a body moisturizer on my face but one day was like f it and used the cerave moisturizing cream on my face… absolute game changer. My face looks so freaking good. I’ve always had an issue with grease and shine from all face moisturizer and using this stuff literally gives me a matte finish that lasts all day. I don’t know why and I don’t care it’s amazing. Also you are like the only person I’ve ever heard say that that’s totally fine to do so thank you!

  16. MsKillerkatze on December 9, 2022 at 2:29 am

Sustainability includes social and ethical aspects. So the animal thing is ok. The gluten stuff etc. is strange.

  17. Ha on December 9, 2022 at 2:31 am

It’s again one of those greenwashing things. In order to make refined aluminium they mine soil from developing countries like Jamaica. They ruin the soil during the process making it infertile, the harvesting kicks up dust which is a health hazard for the locals, and these American, Russian and Chinese owned businesses force out natives from their homes. Currently they are encroaching on sacred native lands.

There’s really no easy answer to the environmental problem, all these materials are shipped all over the planet and are obtained through human suffering. But I suppose that the consumer is happier when they can offload their guilt until they can’t ignore it anymore when it begins to personally effect them.

So what they failed to mention in this article, is that some people ought to keep wearing masks. I’ve witnessed people who have either stopped wearing masks or taken it off – it was rather horrifying to see so many unsightly faces.

  21. Heidi Morein on December 9, 2022 at 2:36 am

Does anyone else want to do her eyebrows and cut her hair (a bit)?

  22. Karen Farmer on December 9, 2022 at 2:36 am

I’m late to watching this video, but thanks for the information…especially on bakuchiol – I’ve been seeing that more lately and hearing a lot of misinformation.

And you look so lovely in this video – not as sweaty/damp/moist/shiny as in many videos. I know ‘dewy’ or what’s that other goofy descriptor that is so ‘popular’…oh, yes, ‘glowing’ is what they are calling it now, but people look best when lights don’t glare off their foreheads and cheeks as if they need to towel off after going for a run on a hot day.

  23. Holobiont on December 9, 2022 at 2:36 am

I am currently writing a paper for a university class, we made a survey about the product country image. Therfore I had to do a lot of research on the reality of sustainability in products. A lot of papers show, that sustainability is super complex and its not easily defined by just one factor. For example in Germany a lot of people think, that the Spanish tomato is bad because of the transportation from Spain to Germany, but it’s actually not the problem when it comes to CO2 production, in fact it’s the smallest issue when it comes to this. It’s already so complex for scientists to do a life cycle assessment for a product to find out its sustainability so it’s not as simple as saying "oh this is bad so it’s not sustainable". Sustainability is complex and not as easy as we wish it would be.

OMG you’re an eye opener, I have recently heard about the bakuchiol and I was planning to order it as an alternative to retinol, I really appreciate your advice, could you please recommand books or websites where we could get "NON BS" informations about skincare ingredients?

  28. Jessica Moore on December 9, 2022 at 2:48 am

I feel like bar soap holds onto the dirt. I know I’m wrong but my mind won’t let me think different! 🥴

  29. We Are Legion on December 9, 2022 at 2:51 am

My main problem with bar soaps is the soap scum they leave behind on everything

  30. Casey Woodbury on December 9, 2022 at 2:51 am

I love this woman, I’ve learned so much from Dr. Dray. I’ve never had coffee in my life so I can’t relate, but her obsession with coffee cracks me up.

  31. Shab Amiri on December 9, 2022 at 2:53 am

I have two family members who were diagnosed with breast cancer 25 years apart and in both instances their two different oncologists told them to stop using antiperspirant/deodorants with aluminum and to opt for natural baking soda/charcoal based deodorant. I think your assessment of aluminums danger of being absorbed into the skin and bloodstream near lymph nodes under your arms is incorrect and frankly dangerous to those who believe your opinion.

  32. Teresa May on December 9, 2022 at 2:56 am

Dr Dray, what is your opinion about of O’Keeffe spf 35 moisturizing lip balm, un flavored? I have always had difficultly finding sunscreen lip balm that does not sting and/or seep in via saliva and taste nasty. Good/bad/neutral?

  33. akhiker01 on December 9, 2022 at 3:01 am

    You look gorgeous today!!! 😊

Long-time Dove Beauty Bar girl! Love the OV or the sensitive skin bar. Use it every day.

  35. Z on December 9, 2022 at 3:01 am

Marketing skincare products as “GLUTEN FREE” is like labeling them as “DELICIOUS”—it just doesn’t make sense! 😂

  36. Araceli Harder on December 9, 2022 at 3:01 am

U r the best Dr. Gray. God bless u always

  37. Lindsay Muller on December 9, 2022 at 3:02 am

I’m an environmental scientist! Are all plant products more sustainable than all animal products? No, not necessarily. Though in general, plant derived ingredients do tent to be less resource intensive, so in general a rule of thumb is that less animal products is better. Obviously it’s a very multidimensional topic and way more complicated than that, but yes I would say that vegan and cruelty free have an place under the sustainability page.
Also yes aluminum tends to be more sustainable. The aluminum extraction process is super bad for the environment, but once it’s been made the sustainability can surpass plastic because there is such a high rate if recycling. Somewhere in the 90% range for aluminum while only about 9% for plastic. So if aluminum is being recycled and it’s getting reused over and over again, it becomes less resource intensive per use overall making it far more sustainable than plastic. And even if someone does throw it out, it’s less damaging to the environment than thrown out plastic.

  38. Mintyfrills on December 9, 2022 at 3:03 am

I don’t use aluminum deodorants because I get stains on my clothes from it. Don’t think there’s any danger at all, just yellowed fabric.
Sustainability wise anything that decreases plastic is generally better for the environment. (I work with this professionally.)

  48. piki4862 on December 9, 2022 at 3:12 am

I’ve used the Dove fragrance free for eons. I never use the bar on my skin directly. I lather on my hands and then wash the areas. Then always "wash off" rinse the bar. Active ingredients in a rinse off product is a waste of money. No one keeps it on the skin long enough to make a difference. Save the money for other products.

  49. Shelby H. on December 9, 2022 at 3:12 am

I bought that Dove deodorant for travel. It is a solid and smaller than an average deodorant. When I travel, I don’t check my bags, so I need my liquids to be limited. It worked well enough.
