I grew up in a white house. I can tell you they are not easy to maintain the walls always look dirty they get dingy and disgusting you have to paint corners in high traffic places yearly to keep them nice and crisp. this is ridiculous to tell people to paint their entire house is white. Especially if they have kids. Really hope the white trend goes away like immediately.

I love her hair and the color is awesome 😍

  5. caprcorn28 on November 29, 2022 at 3:52 pm

Glass blocks are awesome!!! This is all such a personalized decision. All of this. Some of these “updates” are expensive and made to sound “just do it”….girlllllll…..

  6. Sandy Nicholas on November 29, 2022 at 3:53 pm

Good thing she didn’t rip on my kitchen cabinets. He made them himself it’s a guy thing.. they are all knotty pine with cathedral ceilings. I know it’s dated but he won’t budge on that nor will he budge on the dated windows.

  7. Suzi SaintJames on November 29, 2022 at 4:00 pm

Re: grout color. I think it depends on the look you are seeking. If you want your floor to look expansive, then matching grout is what you want. If you want your massive floor to bring the walls inward then you want a contrasting grout color. 💖🌞🌵😷

  8. Kira Van Deusen on November 29, 2022 at 4:00 pm

Very pretentious of you to tell people to paint their walls white. Some people have more personality than trends allow.

  9. Lisa Joy on November 29, 2022 at 4:02 pm

I say have what makes you happy- screw trends- until I get ready to sell my home- my choice in paint colors are dictated by my taste not by the trends- decluttering is the best advice

I love changing things around. Even if I can’t paint a wall or buy expensive things, just by moving things to a different room helps. And finding unique things at a thrift store that aren’t expensive is a change. I don’t want to be “stuck in my ways”. It’s fun having friends notice something different. I’m 76 and my mom at 90 did too. Loved when I brought different things. Organize ?? I’m so organized that friends still can’t believe how I do it. It’s so automatic and I’ve done that since forever. I organize when I dream.

  12. Adriana Fernandez on November 29, 2022 at 4:04 pm

Si no inventan los cambios se mueren de hambre
Siempre inventan algo para que uno salga a comprar!

  13. reyna guevara on November 29, 2022 at 4:05 pm

I have a very dated celling fan but removing it and putting something other then a celling fan is not an option. I want my bedroom to look more expensive and I just can’t seem to find anything I like.

  14. S. López on November 29, 2022 at 4:06 pm

Had to giggle when she talked about the paint color. We just built our home a year ago and I opted for white walls. I wanted the home to feel bright and airy. However, the white quickly bothered me. We repainted the living area a light beige and the kitchen a very pale shade of green. I definitely feel now after living in an “all white” house, that walls should be a color. Our home is now bright yet also has a warmth to it that it lacked before. So I guess I aged our house fifteen years in a year lol but oh well. 😅 Hopefully soon we can bring some color into the bedrooms too.

Trends aren’t for everybody. I love when something that I love become trend because I can find a lot of things for my home. Like Boho…I love boho but I manage to included with other things around my home.

  16. Susan Avery on November 29, 2022 at 4:07 pm

You have to completely change your decor to have white walls so it’s not a quick easy fix.

  17. Elliot Romero on November 29, 2022 at 4:08 pm

10 things to waste money on to make interior decorators rich. This is nonsense. First World Problems.

  18. Susan Pera on November 29, 2022 at 4:10 pm

I love antique white for my walls – that way my furnishings and decor take center stage and the walls are the backdrop. Of course artwork then stands out as well. Then to refresh I can switch pillows, throws, etc. Of course decluttering and changing/ moving decor refreshes the space and makes it new again.

  19. Mama Nova on November 29, 2022 at 4:11 pm

All she is doing is explaining the latest trends. Same thing fashion designers do. Love seeing the trends.

  20. Duck You on November 29, 2022 at 4:14 pm

Carpeted stairs are always dated and look horrible. Carpet should never be on stairs. The amount of traffic they receive ruins the carpet way before the other carpeted floor areas. Also why pay for quality wood if it’s going to be painted. All this painted wood means crap wood is being used and problems will occur in the future, a huge hard off to the marketing team of paint manufacturers and marketers everywhere. It’s the cheapest and easiest way to decorate . It’s why architectural trends and formal wear never change. They are the most expensive so slowest to change because no one can afford to. Everyone can afford a gallon of paint though which is why trends are crates by marketing teams and not real. Remember 50% of the population has an I.Q. below 100.

  21. Nunya _ on November 29, 2022 at 4:16 pm

    White…is boring.

  22. Omotanwa on November 29, 2022 at 4:19 pm

Last week I painted my whole house with Sherwin Williams Kilim Beige and all of a sudden my mood changed to happy. I don’t think every body’s home should be painted white. It’s boring and plain.

  23. Tim Evans on November 29, 2022 at 4:19 pm

Kristen, great updates. Yes, staying on trend can be expensive, but as you’ve shown, also affordable. Every one of your fixes are spot on, forget the naysayers, they don’t care about fashion and taste.

  24. Lisa Joy on November 29, 2022 at 4:19 pm

One more thing on trends- todays trends are boring to say the least- zero color zero personal items even books are covered with plain white paper! It’s like living in a model home – so how is that warm, inviting and more importantly a reflection of a persons life, passions, experiences and their personality- it’s great to keep our homes updated for practical resell reasons like updating old cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms, light fixtures and door handles updated- and paint is the cheapest most dynamic update we can all do- but to Pooh Pooh certain design or decorating elements no matter what the era is superficial and hollow- unrealistic- I’m 65 and my home is a reflection of my life- yours should be that way too- trends be damned

I noticed everyone has an opinion that goes against what you’re saying. They obviously don’t want to upgrade, which makes me wonder why they would watch your video in the first place. I personally think your advice is sound, not over the top. And I love your budget friendly tips!

  28. Bridget Wildman on November 29, 2022 at 4:21 pm

    Excellent ideas thank you.

  29. evereden on November 29, 2022 at 4:22 pm

Thank you for getting to the point and not making me squirm waiting for the next tip! You are a great example of how these videos should be made. I will be unsubscribing to any who do not do this, since most are impossible to skip forward on. I also find your tips to be extremely helpful and professional. I normally wouldn’t post, but had to let you know how impressed and grateful I am for your videos and the succinct way you organize your tutorials.

  30. Kimberly Vanhoutan on November 29, 2022 at 4:24 pm

Getting rid of clutter is the best idea on this video. Everyone should re-evaluate the stuff we’ve accumulated over the years. I’ve been doing this for a couple years and feel better about our spaces every time I purge something. Doing this immediately gives your space a facelift! I’m not a trend follower. I like what I like. My home has always been commented on as being Cozy and warm. That has always been my goal, not what the trend is. I want people to feel comfortable when they are in our home first! Thanks for your video.

  31. Kenneth on November 29, 2022 at 4:26 pm

Crisp clean white is sterile. I definitely liked the color walls depicted in your b roll much better than the white.

  35. Amy Stewart on November 29, 2022 at 4:37 pm

Theres a time and a place for all white walls but it’s not for everyone. I HATED the all white walls in my home when I moved in, particularly in the rooms that already get a tonne of natural light because it was too stark and sterile looking. My living room is now a terracotta red and it’s the best decision I could have made. I’m giving up on being trendy and going with what makes me happy!

  36. Jennifer Laurens on November 29, 2022 at 4:37 pm

Um. No. Classic colors are just that. Trendy is here today, yawn tomorrow.

  37. Suzi SaintJames on November 29, 2022 at 4:37 pm

My kitchen walls are goldenrod and I love it. With the bright white cabinets and stainless/black appliances, it still looks modern and clean. I recently changed the cabinet door handles to a sleek stainless steel and it’s like a fresh new look! Next I want to get a stainless panel for my dishwasher (it’s currently black, so it goes with everything, but stainless would be better). Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. 😷

Great video, new sub! Question should you hang drapes over shutters? Is there a rule of thumb to follow? 😊 🙏

  40. Caroline McGarry-Ross on November 29, 2022 at 4:39 pm

Great ideas. Very happy you offered some less expensive options. We have moved a lot (due to work) and I find avoiding the big trends works in your favour when you have to sell & avoids having a huge reno cost to get your $$ for the house. . Current paint colors are great < its just little elbow grease and can really refresh a space) , avoiding rugs (they hold dirt and allergens ), use throw rugs that can be washed and especially getting rid of clutter. When we are looking at houses, I honestly will not look at a place that is full of clutter (or enough plants to restock the Amazon forest) or has different colors in every room because all I can see is all the work I’d have to do to move in. Great video!

My daughter in law is very particular about home decor. Her home looks like a Z Gallery showroom. I’ve always chosen decor by what is dear to me. Things that bring joy, that have memories attached. Surrounding myself with meaningful items. Outdated? Sure. But not everyone is a puppet on a string, to be controlled by trends. To each his own. This young woman needs about 30 more years under her belt. Telling people to get rid of their things so they can be “on trend”. Clearly she doesn’t “get it”. As long as my house is clean, airy and sound, filled with loved ones, who cares if it’s not “on trend”?
Funny how young people think they know so much.

  42. Jason Sykes on November 29, 2022 at 4:42 pm

‘Dated’ is a relative term. It also means not wasting money following every fad that comes along.

  46. Margaret on November 29, 2022 at 4:44 pm

Awesome tips, especially the decluttering one. Hearing that it ages the home is motivating to clean it up. Also like the door knob one. These are easy and simple and will start on the decluttering this morning! THANK YOU I subscribed and look forward to more tips.
